A Bar story

This guy goes to a bar that's on the tenth floor of a hotel. He sits down and has a couple of drinks, then stands up, announces loudly that he has had enough, and goes over and jumps out the window. Now, there are two men who are sitting at a window table, and having that natural human curiosity about the grotesque, watch as this man plummets to certain death. However, just as he is about to hit the ground, he rights himself, pulls his feet underneath himself, and lands gracefully. He then turns and comes back into the building. Naturally, the two men are amazed. The guy comes back into the bar, orders a few drinks, then repeats the process. The two men at the window seat are astounded! When the guy returns and repeats the procedure AGAIN, the two men stop him before he jumps and ask him how on earth he does that. He replies "It's simple, really. There's an air vent down by the ground, and if you catch the updraft, you can right yourself and land on the ground with no problems." Then he proceeded to jump out the window again. Well, these two men decided that they just HAD to try this, so they jumped out the window, and SPLAT! -- made a mess hitting all over the ground. Meanwhile, the first guy has made it back up to the bar. When he sits down to order his drinks, the bartender says "Superman, you can be a real ------- when you're drunk!"

I can't wait for football season to start again because last night I watched Paul Maholm stay on the mound one batter too many. That must have been how it looked to the 23,118 in attendance last night at PNC Park. They loudly booed manager Jim Tracy when he emerged from the dugout after the damage had been done in the Pirates' modern-record 13th consecutive loss, 4-3 to the Chicago White Sox.

And it surely was the view of the throaty fan who shouted from the upper deck in the aftermath, "Tracy lost this game!" But the opinion was not shared by those most intensely involved. This was how a late three-run lead against the World Series champion disintegrated into yet another historic defeat ...

An rollercoaster of fun this weekend

Ahh the weekend… what did I do? Well for starters on Friday night I ended up staying late at work then afterwards I went to happy hour with the new coworkers. It was fun but something was missing that night, I could not stay out late too as I had to get up early the next day for a picnic at Kennywood – I was meeting my family there and we had it planned for weeks in advance. I rode the log jammer with my nephews, Andrew (9) and Alex (6) they had fun splashing and then we rode a few more rides but nothing as large as that but there was one ride called … The Big plunge I think, or was it the Pittsburgh plunge - no sure but anyway my nephews made a game of running up to the railing waiting for the new car loaded with people to come down the hill then running away from the resulting splash. Well the last time down they were preparing to run when I sneaked up behind them and grabbed them and held them up for the oncoming splash – we all got drenched. It fun, spent most of Saturday there then I left when my brother and his boys did leaving my sister and her son and my oldest nephew Paul there with his friends. Oh by the way my oldest nephew Paul he graduated highschool Its also the same school I graduated from way back in the day! A couple of weeks back and at his graduation he got a small fortunate about 3000 dollars with the money he purchased himself a car – a used car but his first car. I got to see it first hand, reminded me of my first car an 1991 Ford Mustang, it was ugly to look at with rust spot, paint chipped away and the roof which was a convertible was so badly dried rotted that when I put the roof back up I had to physically lay on it to force it down then reached underneath to latch it back in place. I purchased it for 600 dollars, had to put another 400 into it and it lasted about two years before it finally died on me and then I went for a Saturn SL1 not long after I got that one I traded that in for the Saturn ION Quade Coupe hummmmm will this be my next car?

The law of Karma

In Buddhist teaching, the law of karma, says only this: `for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant according as its cause was skillful or unskillful.' A skillful event is one that is not accompanied by craving, resistance or delusions; an unskillful event is one that is accompanied by any one of those things. (Events are not skillful in themselves, but are so called only in virtue of the mental events that occur with them.)Therefore, the law of Karma teaches that responsibility for unskillful actions is born by the person who commits them.Let's take an example of a sequence of events. An unpleasant sensation occurs. A thought arises that the source of the unpleasantness was a person. (This thought is a delusion; any decisions based upon it will therefore be unskillful.) A thought arises that some past sensations of unpleasantness issued from this same person. (This thought is a further delusion.) This is followed by a willful decision to speak words that will produce an unpleasant sensation in that which is perceived as a person. (This decision is an act of hostility. Of all the events described so far, only this is called a karma.) Words are carefully chosen in the hopes that when heard they will cause pain. The words are pronounced aloud. (This is the execution of the decision to be hostile. It may also be classed as a kind of karma, although technically it is an after-karma.) There is a visual sensation of a furrowed brow and downturned mouth. The thought arises that the other person's face is frowning. The thought arises that the other person's feelings were hurt. There is a fleeting joyful feeling of success in knowing that one has scored a damaging verbal blow. Eventually (perhaps much later) there is an unpleasant sensation of regret, perhaps taking the form of a sensation of fear that the perceived enemy may retaliate, or perhaps taking the form of remorse on having acted impetuously, like an immature child, and hping that no one will remember this childish action. (This regret or fear is the unpleasant ripening of the karma, the unskillful decision to inflict pain through words.)

Unlimited potential

On Friday I had gotten done with my work early so I was on my company's intranet site surfing the benefits, current job postings for internal employees and I realized that I have the OPPORTUNITY to go anywhere. A unlimited potential to seize any opportunity I want and all I have to do is stay focused, stay postive and believe in MYSELF and I can achieve any goal I set for myself. The fact that I work for a great company now leads to greater confusion on my part because my dream was always to teach and it still is but the price tag attached to that especially at Duquesne is to great. I am taking the summer off from any classes and enjoying the time but after the summer I do not intend on going back to Duquesne not since I got the letter from Point Park explaining the new degrees they offer. Realistically speaking going back to Point Park would make sense one course at Duquesne is the equal to two and half at Point Park so that part of my decision has already been made but part of me still wants to stay put where I am at now and see where the future takes me because for now I love what I do and the company I work for because they treat their employees with the respect we deserve. Oh well i still have a couple of months left of the summer before I have to finally decide so peace out for now.

A list

I saw this on Alice's blog and had to copy it! 40 THINGS YOU'D LOVE TO SAY OUT LOUD AT WORK but my favorite where:

3. How about never? Is never good for you?

6. I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.

7. I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

9. It sounds like English, but I can't understand a damn word you're saying.

And my all time favorite is ...

21. It's a thankless job, but I've got a lot of Karma to burn off.

The Coach

The million dollar question is ... drum roll pleaseeeee... what team does this man coach?

Saturday morning thoughts

My weeks have been fairly busy, but most of my weeks of late are. I have large amounts of paper work to go through then after that i book the loans send them of to audit for verification, get back my corrections then send them off again to audit for further review and finally book them. I havent really been in the mood to blog until recently.

I was at the pharmacy yesterday and I saw a greeting card with Winnie the Pooh and Piglet on it and it made me think about life and the people we need. On the card Pooh and piglet were walking hand in hand.

Piglets says "Pooh".

"yes,Piglet." says Pooh

"Oh Nothing." Piglet said " I just wanted to be sure of you"

This made me smile and think often in our lives we just simply need the reassurance that we have someone there and that we are loved or like and of course accepted as a valued person. Big question is why is it often so hard for us to express our feelings and needs. Just the simple expression of telling someone you care about them and that they are appreciated can sometimes be enough to bring a smile to someones face and brighten their day.Yet at times we find it hard to communicate what we think and feel. Life is far to short and unpredictable for these actions however many of us are guilty of this. I have decided that no matter what from now im gonna do my best to show the ones I like what i need and what they mean to me in words - and not after the fact on my blog. This will be very hard for me because I dont deal well with discussing how Im feeling most of the time. I have made some progress with this since ... well I leave that there for now. Funny how sometimes even a simple little greeting card can cause us to think about things that are relavent in our lives.

I am now off to wash my car and a special message to those birds that seem to like crapping on my car I offer you a deal, stop pooping on my car now and I won't trap you in a cage and sell you to that Chinese resturant down the street.

Ever Wonder?

  1. Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?
  2. Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?
  3. Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?
  4. Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?
  5. Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?
  6. Why is it that to stop Windows 98, you have to click on "Start"?
  7. Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?
  8. Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
  9. Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?
  10. Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?
  11. When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it?
  12. Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
  13. Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
  14. You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?
  15. Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
  16. Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
  17. If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?
  18. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

Salute to toliets!

First on The Throne!

BEIJING: China has flushed Britain's claims to have invented the water closet down the pan with the discovery of a 2000-year-old toilet complete with running water, a stone seat and a comfortable armrest.

Archeologists found the antique latrine in the tomb of a king of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC to 24 AD), who believed his soul would need to enjoy human life after death, the official Xinhua news agency said yesterday.
The invention of the flush toilet is widely attributed to London plumber Thomas Crapper, who patented a U-bend siphoning system for flushing the pan in the late 19th century.
