My husband, who works with the "black box" says that they're not indestructible. It's like a fire resistant safe (it's good, but it can still be destroyed). The black box is placed at the back of the plane (the area that would take the least amount of damage in a crash) and that's why it seems indestructible. Also, it wouldn't be very cost effective considering the amount of planes that crash (it would make the plane alot heavier and would need to either make up for that weight somewhere else (carring less cargo) or use more fuel).
My mom asked Jake the same question a couple of years ago and she got skooled! That's the only reason I remember any of it. She thought she was so smart and Jake set her straight and it was awesome.
gotta love moments like those!
