A defining moment in history

Five years after the attacks left the world's superpower reeling, September 11 remains the defining moment of Dubya's presidency and also as a watershed in recent American history, its shockwaves continuing to reverberate. The attacks spurred the United States to go to war in Afghanistan - a war in which I was behind the President and Iraq - a war that I do not support the President on. Why? Because it is not just polarising American public opinion, but also it is reshaping the diplomatic landscape and straining old alliances.

The war on terror should concentrate on the hunt for Bin Laden but despite the billions of dollars spent on the military campaigns, Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden - believed to be hiding in the rough, mountainous region straddling the Afghanistan-Pakistan border - remains at large.

Sept 11th was a day that saw the worse side of humanity but it also saw the best in humanity, it was a day that saw heroes, people like Todd Beamer and Mark Bingham who confronted the terrorists on flight 93. Countless unnamed NYC firefighters and police officers that gave their lives to save others not to mention many other aveage citizens who also gave their lives and won't have thier stories told - September 11th 2001 is or was a defining moment on the history of the United States of America.
